How does it work?

Each computer is connected to a separate address in the form of xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx and that serves as their IP(Internet Protocol) address. Each sequence of 3 numbers has to be between 0 and 255. Different connection services are available such as ISPs( Internet Service Providers) which provide you with a temporary IP address, you can connect to a LAN ( Local Area Network) which can give you a permanent IP address or a temporary one from a DHCP( Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol).

Who invented it?

The internet wasn't created by just one person, but an interchanging idea between multiple people. The initial idea was developed by Leonard Kleinrock on May 31, 1961 after he published his first paper titled " Information Flow in a Large Communication Nets". In December 1968, Elmer Shapiro released a report about "A Study of Computer Network Design Parameters" and this lead to other's such as Lawrence Roberts and Barry Wessler created the Interface Message Processor(IMP) specifications. On July 3, 1969 the University of California, Los Angeles released a public statement about introducing the internet to the public.
